Resistant ultralaminae in soils

چکیده
Observation of a chemically resistant organic residue from maize crop soils by transmission electron microscopy reveals the occurrence of thin laminae with 10-50 nm thickness, similar to resistant, highly aliphatic biopolymers found in kerogens and microbes. This discovery shows evidence for a novel and alternative mode of formation of soil organic matter by selective preservation of resistant biopolymers from soil microbes, in addition to the classical recondensation pathway proposed by the French chemist Maillard in 1917.

Prevalence of extended-spectrum ß-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli in agricultural fields of Gorgan district using bovine manure
The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of ESBL-producing E. coli in agricultural fields of Gorgan district, Golestan province. Soil samples were collected from 20 agricultural fields, half of them treated with chemical fertilizers and the rest with bovine manure. Two samples, from surface and a depth of 15cm, were taken. After enrichment and culture onto MacConkey agar, Pink colored...
متن کاملRevised Title: Detection of tetracyclines and tetracycline resistant bacteria in soils under long-term swine effluent
These days, there are increasing concerns that the use of veterinary antibiotics could enhance persistence of antibiotic resistant bacteria in the environment, and consequently constitute a significant risk to the human health as well as animal well-being. Tetracyclines account for more than 50% of all antibiotics used in the swine industry. Unfortunately, only limited scientific evidence is av...
متن کاملSignificance of Soil Compaction on Blast Resistant Behavior of Underground Structures: A Parametric Study
Dynamic response of underground structures has always been a topic of concern for designers and researchers. The behavior of these complicated systems under blast loading is affected by various factors and parametric studies are required to investigate their significance. The importance of soil density around the underground structure through which, the waves of explosion of a penetrator bomb i...
متن کاملArsenic-resistant bacteria isolated from agricultural soils of Bangladesh and characterization of arsenate-reducing strains.
AIMS To analyse the arsenic-resistant bacterial communities of two agricultural soils of Bangladesh, to isolate arsenic-resistant bacteria, to study their potential role in arsenic transformation and to investigate the genetic determinants for arsenic resistance among the isolates. METHODS AND RESULTS Enrichment cultures were performed in a minimal medium in the presence of As(III) and As(V) ...

Surface soils of Sabzevar zone could be geochemically divided into two groups of serpentine (Se) and non-serpentine (Nse) soils. Serpentine soils have higher MgO, FeOt, CaO, S, Ag, Co, Cr, Cu and Ni and lower SiO2, Al2O3, Na2O, K2O, Be, Li, Sc, Ti, U and V than Nse. In other word, Nse samples have high REE content with fractionated LREE/HREE trends in REE diagrams (ΣREE= 31.89- 58.3 ppm; LaN/Yb...
